You're never too old to start.

We often get enquiries asking if someone is too old to start training, in either martial arts or in any of our many strength and conditioning classes. As someone heading deep into the territory of middle age, I can definitively say, it is never too late to try something new!

As we get older, we may notice that our bodies and minds may not function

quite they way they used to however, introducing a new physical regime into your daily routine can have long lasting benefits that will not only stave off the rigours of old age but, improve how you act and feel. In fact, some of the aches and pains associated with age can often be helped, or even eradicated, by regular exercise. Even if you have been active throughout your life, there can be huge benefits in trying something new. Repeating the same exercises, or skills, can lead to a plateau in your physical fitness. After 6-8 weeks of repetitive workouts, your body will adapt to them and they will stop offering the same benefits they once did. This change in routine is also good for the mind. Having to think through new movements, co-ordinate your body in challenging ways and giving yourself a new set of goals will not only keep the mind active but help fight lethargy, depression and anxiety.

At Fighting Fit, we are constantly dispelling the myth of, ‘ you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’. With several of our members in their mid to late 60s, we pride ourselves on being able to welcome anybody into our classes and our instructors are experienced in introducing programmes and training methods to people, regardless of age.

So, rather than wondering if you are too old to try something new, we would like to encourage you to wonder, ‘what can I still achieve?’. We think it's a lot more than you imagine.
